ABOUT THE DESTINATION

Where Krishna Was Born And Raised

Mathura and Vrindavan sit twelve kilometres apart on the banks of the Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh, and together form one of Hinduism's most sacred circuits. Mathura is revered as Krishna's birthplace, marked today by the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple complex; a short drive away, Vrindavan is where he is believed to have spent his childhood among the cowherds and forests of Braj.

The towns run on devotion — thousands of temples, from the centuries-old Banke Bihari to the modern marble spires of Prem Mandir and ISKCON's Krishna-Balaram Mandir. Evenings bring boat rides and aarti at Vishram Ghat, and festivals here, especially Holi and Janmashtami, are unlike anywhere else in India. Locals simply call this land what scripture always has: Braj Bhoomi.
